I started over with a larger stitch count this time-- and it's going to work. The top is a little different (again), I used an eye-of-the-partridge heel (a complete waste in this yarn! bumps everywhere, why bother!), and it's a bit shorter than the first iterations.
Alas, I think they'll make cute summer socks.
