Sockapalooza Stress

Honestly, this Sockapalooooooooza 4 business is a wee bit stressful. It's the first time that I've ever knit socks for feet I will never have contact with. Sure, cruising my intended giftee's blog and reading her supplied information for sock planning was fun. I found yarn and a color she loves in my stash, and I was off! -Or.... at least, I thought I was. I feel that I should admit that I've never joined a sock exchange before.

Choices: I thought I found the *perfect* yarn. My pal loves Cascade's Fixaxion-- Yes, the stuff that makes great socks, but can be a pain in the backside due to tension issues when knitting. I was hoping to make a lovely pair of lace socks for her.

After a few tries, though, sock worry started to creep in. I tried two lace patterns from Barbara Walker anthologies, I realized that the monochromatic yarn really was just too variegated for anything but the simplest of lace.
So, I thought I found something that worked. It was sort of a mis-mash of Waving Lace, Mermaid, and the Spiral Boot Sock. I thought it was coming out really well, up until my surrogate foot tried it on last night. I think it's too small!!!! Grr. Argh.

It's going to the frog pond tonight. I'm planning to knit the same sock after adding six stitches and will knit the Boot Sock heel flap/plain sole version instead of LN's Mermaid with patterned sole.

it's always scary knitting for someone whose feet you don't have access to!!!

Huh. That would be a good reason to avoid those kind of swaps (for me, anyway.)

I know what you mean--my sockpal's feet are pretty much the same size as mine, but a tad wider. I'm hoping that my socks are stretchy enough, because I'm too far along to frog. There's still plenty of time to knit another pair, though, I suppose!

My sock pal's feet are a similar size to mine too. Now if only I can manage to knit a pair of socks that fit ME! That would be a start :)

I love that pattern.

First I ooooo'ed over the sock and then aaaaahhhh'ed over the flowers. Both are lovely.

What a shame! That is an absolutely gorgeous yarn and a lovely 'mish mash'!

It is such a stress isn't it? I have had performance anxiety for the past few weeks and have ended up buying new yarn to try and fix the problem! In the end, won't we all be thrilled with what we get?

Are you sure they won't fit? they are so lovely - mmm, purple!
Actually, you are worrying me now, I need to go and measure my rainbows....
Thanks for the vote of confidence by the way!

I think we all sympathize.
Go for the perfect pattern, yarn and knit.
And then reknit.
Then start over.
(And sign up again next year!)
Ah well. Personnally, I think that color purple is wonderful and the design works for me.
(If your pal doesn't want them, I certainly do!)

You're brave to do these sock exchanges. I think an altered book round robin was fun...but creating a custom wearable for an unknown person is too scary for me. I can't wait to see it though, on Wednesday.

they look great so far...i would be way too nervous about flubbing them up! i'll have to wait until i've actually knit a few pair of socks before i would jump into that. so i'll just watch your talented hands do the work!
