Summer Sky

Instead of selling handpainted yarn here, I'm thinking about starting an Esty shop.
I've been toying with the name Curly Tail Yarns.

Do you have a better store name idea? Leave a comment below. If I create an Etsy store with the name you've come up with by June 4th, I'll send one of these to you:

Summer Sky
Superwash Blue Faced Leicester, 3-ply yarn. 440 yards/ skein.
(2 available skeins)

BFL, "the poor man's cashmere", softens dramatically and continues to do so after each wash. BFL wool has a longer fiber staple length than merino, thus creates a resilient yarn. A skein should make a great pair of socks or a lovely shawl. US size 0 to 1.5 recommended for socks, or US 4-6 for a shawl.

You know what they say 'When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.' So, why not keep it simple and call your etsy store 'Cashmere Dreams'? I thought of that right away when you mentioned that BFL is the 'poor man's cashmere'.

Whether you sell cashmere or not, it's still a very cool name.

Why don't you just name the store "HoneyNinja"?

Hope that it'll go well! And my, that "Summer Sky" hank looks lovely!

I like your name idea. It's cute and a bit different. But so are the other suggestions!

That Summer Sky is gorgeous. *sigh*

I was doing a little reading about Basnjis and am intrigued with the bit I read about them having a sort of "yodel" instead of a bark. Do they really do that?

It made me think about "Yodeling Dog Yarns"

I like Deepa's idea of just calling it "Cashmere Dreams", but to me it really sounds more like someone who *does* sell cashmere, rather than referring to the BFL being the "poor man's cashmere".

Love the yarn, by the way.

That yarn looks like something out of a fairytale illustration.

*sigh* Of course someone already suggested using Cashmere Dreams... I like the tie-in between blog and store.

How about Handpainted Dreams? Or HoneyNinja Handpaints? Or HoneyNinja Dreams? Good luck with whatever you choose. That Summer Sky is gorgeous!

I popped over from Limedragon. A store name, eh?

How about combining a couple of your loves: "Basenji Handpaints"?

How about Cashmere Day Dreams? Or Debra's Cashmere Dreams?

I thought Poorman's Cashmere sounded good, kinda reachable for all us budget knitters!

Oooh, I do love the BFL. How about 'Deb's Delights' or 'Debs Dyed Delights' or just 'Debs' with the subtitle 'dyed delights just for you'.

Everyone has already chosen the best choices: I like Cashmere Dreams and Summery Sky especially.

If I have to pick a different one, how about Minnesota Sky? (The Stranglers' song "Arizona Sky" is in my head right now ;) )

I've always loved INXS. Their song, "Suicide Blonde" always makes me think of the root of that phrase...

Dyed By Her Own Hand

I like Summer Skies or Summer Sky a lot but I would suggest adding Yarn to the name. A personal peeve of mine, shops that don't give a clue as to what they sell in their names.

I also went here: http://mnplaces.mnhs.org/upham/
hoping for some inspiration, but not knowing where you're located, it was impossible to look for a name that might apply to you. But there are plenty of pretty place names and river and lake names...like Mesabi Yarns, for example, if you were close to Mesabi Lake (I think that one was a lake). Anyway, something to think about.

The skein you pictured is the most beautiful shade of blue. I would be happy to buy a skein, since I won't win one. I never win anything. It's a curse. :^)

I couldn't resist!

i guess i would go with something all purpose but personal. and remember, Blue Sky Alpacas is in MN, so you may want to deviate from that a bit to set yourself apart.

more traditional and solid:
'Minnesota Honey Yarns (or Fibers)' maybe even 'Honey Yarns' with a tag line of 'hand dyed in mn' or something to that effect?

fun and hip:
i like the idea elemmaciltur had-i would just go for 'Honey Ninja' but add Fibers or Yarns to it to clarify.
:)

Hmmm...
Honey Handpainted Yarns
I Dream of Cashmere
Minnesota Mojo
HoneyNinja Handpainted Yarns (or fibers)
I dunno, I'm just excited to find another Minnesota knitter, and one who dyes yarn on top of that! Very cool- can I drop in for a lesson some time?

Happy knitting-
ali

I really like "Curly Tail Yarns," so I'd go with your original idea. It is very distinctive and memorable. And when you do a logo, it will be very simple to do, and have a strong association with the name.
