Home Stretch

Lizard Ridge squares: done.
Seaming & Edging yarn: not here.
(Knit Picks! grr argh.)

Last night I lined up the squares in terms of intensity, saturation, and hue-- and essentially worked from one light corner to one dark. I didn't like how it looked. It was too predictible and didn't rely on the playful quality and sensibility of the rich, wonderful color in these blocks. So, I decided to go with a random colorblock-- something that would appease the aesthetics of, say, Gaudi's tilework at Park Guell or Sagrada Familia.

I think this arrangement works, but I'm still considering a few square moves. Any suggestions?

Tonight: stash diving to find appropriate yarn for seaming. I'm excited to complete this project!

I'm sure you all know the major knitting news by now: Eunny Jang has been named the new editor of Interweave Knits. I couldn't be more delighted. Her blog has inspired many of us for the past year and a half. In terms of her design, Franklin Habit may have said it best on 11/15/06: "Eunny, honey, you're really giving She Who Litigates in Scottish Courts a run for her money." She's rare in both her intense love of traditional designs translated and updated for the now, and for her generous patterns and articles on technique.

Congratulations, Eunny and IK! Excellent choice. Let's see if the magazine will transend the quality of it's first years of production.

Have I subscribed to IK in the past 24 hours?- absolutely.

I love your blanket! So much so that I'm thinking hard about cracking into the 3 skeins of Kureyon I've got set aside for a Booga bag... I mean, I don't need another felted bag but I think I *do* need this afghan.

I'm terribly excited about Eunny being appointed the new editor (or would that be editrix?) of IK. I hope she keeps blogging, though. I really missed her blog when she took that long hiatus.

I wouldn't be able to sew it together .... would be having too much fun moving blocks, stepping back and admiring the beauty of each block. It's just beautiful.

Very cool blanket Deb! Arranging the squares has the potential to be a lot of fun or maybe crazy making? To answer your question...I got the claudia sock yarn in Nov in PA, thinking that with a relatively new blog I'd want at some point to run a contest with a nice prize. I hadn't seen that yarn before (but have since). It's a color that I didn't immediately drool over, but looking at it the other day I thought it was a good color...go figure! I have enough sock yarn in the stash that hasn't been knit up yet...AND I've just received some great sock yarn from adam knits when he opened yarnnerd... as a prize. So I figure, comes in, goes out, you get some, you give some!

Thanks for your comment on my blog, I've answered your question about lace projects there, but since I can't find an email for you I hope you don't mind if I post it here.

For big projects I'm thinking about Heirloom Knitting's Melanie Shawl, Fiddlesticks Tina Shawl, Hazel Carter's Sampler Stole in GoL, Something from Victorian Lace Today (saw the shawls at Stitches East and met Jane Sowerby, oh my!)

Smaller projects would be the Shetland Triangle, something from MimKnits, Casino from Knitspot, and designing my own square shawl or stole.

My LYS wants me to teach a lace class, so I may have some enforced knitting to prep for that.

I LOVE my Swallowtail in a qiviut blend. It's the perfect size to stay out of the way but still be just a bit of warmth on your neck and shoulders. The nupps are a bit tedious, but worth it!
